Building scalable analytics for a global reinsurer

Helping MS Reinsurance double in size while transforming its analytics capability from the ground up.

Client context

MS Reinsurance is a global reinsurer with offices in Zurich, Bermuda, Miami and New York, and part of the MS&AD Insurance Group. The business provides reinsurance solutions across property, casualty and specialty lines, with a strong focus on technical expertise and data-driven decision making.

The business problem

When Red Olive began working with MS Reinsurance in 2021, the company had ambitious growth plans but limited internal analytics capability. Senior leadership wanted to scale the business while reducing exposure to catastrophe-heavy risks. The company had introduced an underwriting workbench to improve process control, but it lacked the reporting and analytics needed to give leaders a clear view of pipeline activity, renewal performance and underwriting workload.

What we did

Red Olive partnered with MS Reinsurance to build an underwriting analytics platform that became the foundation for broader enterprise analytics. The engagement expanded to include trusted operational reporting, common data models, governance frameworks and documented data lineage, automated deployment pipelines, and knowledge capture to support onboarding and continuity.

Targeted dashboards gave underwriting teams daily visibility into submissions, quotes, binds and portfolio performance. We also established reusable templates, standards and playbooks that enabled teams to scale delivery consistently during rapid organisational growth.

The results

The programme delivered faster, more reliable underwriting and portfolio reporting, improved visibility of pipeline activity and risk exposure, better decision making through trusted data, and reduced manual reconciliation. MS Reinsurance doubled in size and increased profitability while completing its transformation objectives ahead of schedule.

Looking ahead

With a more mature analytics capability now in place, current work focuses on AI-driven automation and advanced analytics, including automating manual processes involving unstructured data and deploying AI agents to improve the searchability of underwriting and legal agreement data.
