Client context
Gamesys Group plc operates household gaming brands including Rainbow Riches Casino, Virgin Games and Monopoly Casino. With more than 25 million players globally and reported revenue exceeding £400 million, the FTSE 250 company generates a huge volume of transactional data.
The business problem
The company’s data warehouse was over ten years old and needed modernising, but a full-team transformation was not an option. An acquisition, regulatory changes and COVID-19 meant the business had to keep delivering new features while transforming the platform. The team allocated 75% of effort to business priorities and 25% to platform transformation.
What we did
Red Olive helped Gamesys migrate its highest-volume, highest-value data to Google Cloud Platform. We used our in-house accelerator, ROSIE (Red Olive Simplified Integration Engine), a Python-based data transformation engine that allowed Gamesys to use its existing SQL skills rather than retraining staff.
We set up an event-based architecture landing data in near real-time. ROSIE formed the basis for the ETL engine now in use throughout the company.
The results
Gamesys merged two companies, launched new ventures and continued to grow market share and revenue while achieving a significant portion of the data platform transformation. The cloud platform enables the business to scale seamlessly and release new data products faster.
Looking ahead
With the foundation in place, Gamesys is broadening the scope to automated marketing processes and extending its cloud-first data capability across the business.
Red Olive was cost-effective, had done it before and was GCP certified. It was a no-brainer.Robin Hayden,
